Battle of the Boxes: Birchbox, Ipsy and Walmart Beauty Box June 2015 Edition

Hi all! Sorry I've been MIA, I've been out of state on vacation! Now I'm back and I had my three makeup subscription boxes waiting for me. What an awesome thing to come home to! With this, I decided to start a new "segment", if you will, called Battle of the Boxes! Normally I get two every month (Ipsy and Birchbox) and once every season I get a Walmart Beauty Box, they just all happened to come at the same time this month :)

In this segment, I'll be showing you pictures and telling you what I got. In a week or two, I'll do reviews on the products I received (unless it's something I've already reviewed or owned). Let's start off with the one I've been doing the longest, Birchbox.

Now, this month I got a message about upgrading my box to include two full sized makeup or nail products for a total of $30 a month. Given the cost of most of the stuff that they send out for samples, I figured I couldn't go wrong with this decision!

First, I'll talk about the normal samples that come in a regular $10 subscription with Birchbox.
Tocca Bianca Perfume: I don't know the exact size of the sample but this is a pretty good sized sample. It's a very fresh and clean, hints of rose and lemon with a light musk undertone. Full size is $68 for 1.7 oz. I'm not going to lie, I just wore it today for the first time and I'm already tempted to buy a full size when I'm out of my sample.
Supergoop Play Everyday Sunscreen SPF50: It's a light white colored cream that blends into the skin easily. It has a light sunscreen smell with a hint of rosemary. I put it on my face today before my makeup and it didn't affect my application at all. The sample is 0.34 oz and a full size is $48 for 18 oz.
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Blue Lagoon: I love colored eyeliners, especially for my waterline. This one is a pretty teal green/blue. It's a very creamy formula but so far, it's not very pigmented nor does it stay on my waterline very well. This pencil normally comes in a 4 piece travel set for $18.
TempleSpa Good Hair Day Shampoo and In Good Condition Conditioner: I'm not a fan of the smell of the shampoo already just by taking a sniff out of the bottle. The sample sizes are 0.84 oz each and you can get a full size of each for $14 each, both being 6.8 oz full size.
FULL SIZE:
Mally Liquid Face Defender Blush: I got the color Mimosa and it's a pretty peachy color that is perfect for Summer. It's not a true liquid, it's more like a cream in a tube. It blends out nicely but the color payoff leaves a little to be desired. This is $30 normally for 0.75 oz.
Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge: I got the color Sydney which is a bright pink color. It's more of a blue based pink. It's a very creamy formula and it does take a bit to dry which is fine in my book! It feels very hydrating but time will tell for that in the long run. This is normally $29 for 0.24 oz.

So far, for an extra $20, it was well worth it! I'll be keeping this option for next month!

Next up, Ipsy.

J.Cat Hydrating Lipstain: I looked all over the bottle for the color name and I just can't find it...however this is a pretty rose colored lip stain. It's more of a cream formula and it does initially feel very hydrating. This is 0.42 oz and is a full size which retails for $5.99.
LaVanilla Laboratories The Healthy Body Butter: I got the scent is pure vanilla which smells amazing. It feels hydrating and like I said, smells amazing! This is 0.85 oz and a full size is $19 for 6.7 oz.
It Cosmetics Brow Power Pencil: I got this in the universal taupe color which matches my brows pretty well. One side is the pencil, the other is a spooly to brush out your brows. This sample is 0.0025 oz and a full size is $24 for 0.005 oz.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer: I've never been a fan of this primer. I hate the feel of it on my skin but it does work pretty well. I'll use it since I've got it. The sample is 0.25 oz and a full size is $36 for 1 oz.
treStiQue Mini Shadow Crayon: I got the color Kona Coffee which is a dark matte brown. It is a very creamy formula and seems to blend pretty well. The sample is 0.02 oz and a full size is $26.

The last item was a Vincent Longo Starlette gel eye stain in the color Ambrosia Mist.

Let's just say, while the idea sounded neat, I think I'm going to regret blowing my points on this....it feels just like a lipgloss and pretty much sheers right out. You can see some glitter in it, but that's it.

Finally, Walmart Beauty Box.

Walmart says they're a "beauty box" but it's more skin care and shampoos and such, which is fine with me.
Clear Complete Care Anti-Dandruff Shampoo: smells good, I don't really need a dandruff shampoo so I'll most likely be passing this along to someone else. This is a travel size which normally retails for about $1.50.
St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub: smells good, creamy and slightly gritty texture. Doesn't do the best job taking off makeup but I like how my skin feels afterwards. Full size is $3.87 for 6 oz.
Dove Go Fresh Mandarin and Tiare Flower: I already love Dove body wash, my skin flips out when I use anything but Dove. This scent is pretty flowery but it's not too overpowering. This is a travel size which retails for around $1.
Neutrogena CoolDry Sport Sunscreen SPF 70: has a cologne type scent to it, I can't quite place what it smells like, it just reminds me of an aftershave or something. White color, dries pretty smooth, rubs into the skin really easily. This is a 0.5 oz and a full size is $10.99 for 5.5 oz.
Nivea Soft Moisturizing Creme: very lightweight, smells light and crisp, smooths into the skin very easily. I do like this so far, minus the fact that it's in a tub. This is 0.84 oz and retails for around $0.99 but you can get bigger sizes.
Jergens Natural Glow 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer in Medium to Tan: These are foil packets and made for a skin tone darker than mine so I'll probably pass them on. I have used the lighter one and I like it, I don't care for the smell though. A full size is $6.75 for 4 oz.
One Direction You & I perfume: I'm sooo not a fan of One Direction at all but this perfume is not that bad. It's pretty flowery in my opinion but I'll give it a shot.
NYC Liquid Lipshine in 058 Rivington Rose: kind of sheer but I like the color of it. It is pretty shimmery though. This is a full size that retails for $1.97 for 0.24 oz
The last thing in my Walmart Beauty Box was three coupons for $2 off three different brush companies which saved me more than what I spent my box :)

Good haul this month, lots of good stuff to try out! I'll report back in a week on which ones made the cut and which one didn't. In the meantime, if you want to check any of these out I'll post the links below (Birchbox and Ipsy are my referral links, I get points for you signing up under my link)

Fashion Post: Stitch Fix #4

Hi all! I thought I'd branch out a bit and include some fashion posts in my blog. Today I got my Stitch Fix box and tried everything on and really only fell in love with one outfit they sent me.

For those of you who don't know, Stitch Fix is a styling service that you pay $20 to have one of their stylist personally pick out 5 items for you to try on and whatever you don't like, you send back free of charge! The $20 goes towards whatever you keep and if you keep all 5 items, you get 25% off your whole order! If you want to try it out, this is my referral link (https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/4644518) and if you get a box shipped to you, I get a $25 credit towards my next box!

On to what goodies I got this time.

This is the Renee C Cheli Striped Maxi. First, let me say that I LOVE the material and it's SO comfortable but the way it looked on me was horrible. If it didn't have the elastic in the middle to make it look almost like a shirt/skirt combo, I probably would have kept this dress. It was short enough that I wasn't tripping over the hem and it was comfortable which is exactly what I was looking for...I wish I could keep you pretty dress, but you're going back.

This is the Papermoon Tulip Sleeve blouse and Skies are Blue Enna Short. The shirt is pretty but I didn't like the material, it's see through and light which is good for the summer but I had a helluva time getting back out of it. The shorts....I just didn't even like the shorts at all. I still tried them on because I'm a good sport but they just looked horrible on me. So baggy and the back is elastic like kid's pants. Both of these are going back. Bye bye odd looking shorts...

And now we have the keeper, Collective Concepts Simpson Hater blouse and Just Black Tatyana Distressed Shorts. The pattern of this shirt is just amazing and the bonus, IT HAS BUTTONS DOWN THE FRONT (yes, I was excited for that, I was trying to figure out how I was going to get it on when I discovered the hidden row of buttons). It's light but not see through. I'm going to have to wear a strapless bra with it or see if I can get a halter bra to work. The shorts are perfect. Not too long, not too short or too tight. Perfect is the only word I can use to describe them. I want more of these like stat.

All in all, I love getting my Stitch Fixes, it's a nice easy way to update my wardrobe when I'm feeling bored with it or I want to get something for a special occasion and don't have time to shop. Give them a chance!

Do you like the little bit of fashion thrown in once in a while or want me to stick to just beauty related items? Let me know!

Look of the Day: Reverse Cat Eye

Hi all! I was asked a while ago by a friend of mine to do a green and gold eye look (Hi Briana!) and I finally got one I'm happy with. I don't have a lot of green eye shadows that go with a golden color so it took some trial and error to find a good combination. I also decided to try a "reverse cat eye" where you have a flick on the lower lash as well but I did mine so the flick was on the inner corner of my eye. It's definitely something different than I've done before but I think it looks good.

Make Up For Ever (MUFE) HD Invisible Cover Foundation in 117 Marble
DermaBlend Smooth Liquid Camo Concealer in Biscuit
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Light Warm

ColourPop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter Lunch Money

Eyes:

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Roulette (bottom liner)

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12 HR Wear in 14 Cocoa
Armani Eyes to Kill Classic Mascara
L'Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Plumper in Medium to Dark

Lips:
ColourPop Lippie Pencil in Skimpy
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rapture

I did Take a picture without the bottom flick (mainly just in case this didn't turn out very well) and it's more wearable for those who are just starting out or for a more wearable daily look.

Hope you all enjoyed this adventurous look for me!
